Breech/Posterior Positions
Acupuncture and moxa can be used to encourage the baby to move into a more favourable position in cases of breech or posterior positions.
Pre-Birth Treatments & Cervical Ripening
From 36-40 weeks, pre-birth acupuncture promotes thinning and dilation of the cervix (a process called “cervical ripening”), increases the body’s energy needed for labour, promotes relaxation, and reduces levels of the stress hormone known as cortisol in the mother and baby.
Studies have shown the rate of medical inductions decreases by roughly 35% when women receive weekly Birth Preparation Acupuncture treatments.
Preparation For Labour
Treatments at this time are designed to increase blood flow to the uterus to relax the muscles of the pelvis, dilate the cervix, stimulate the release of labour hormones, and induce contractions.
Postnatal Wellness
Women are strongly encouraged to receive acupuncture within the first two weeks of having their baby, 4-6 weeks if Cesarean birth. Acupuncture is incredibly beneficial during this time to:
replenish the loss of blood and energy
warm the uterus
promote healing
tone the pelvic floor
raise a prolapsed uterus
reduce haemorrhoids
encourage deeper sleep
enhance lactation
decrease stress and anxiety levels
reduce baby blues
improve future fertility
