Endometriosis

“Killer cramps”, long/heavy periods, bowel and urinary disorders, nausea and more; endometriosis is a painful, chronic condition affecting around 1 in 10 women and girls.

What is this condition?

Endometriosis results when uterine lining or endometrial tissue, migrates outside the uterus to other parts of the body. These mobile tissues tend to reside within the pelvic cavity, where it attaches to any of the female reproductive organs (outside of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries) or any of the spaces between the bladder, uterus/vagina, and rectum.

This tissue responds in the same way to the uterine lying to hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, i.e. each month the tissue builds up, breaks down, and sheds. Unfortunately, this tissue has no way of leaving the body and causes pain, internal bleeding, inflammation, bowel problems and scarring.
